The Secondary Education Program at ISU prepares candidates to teach students in grade 6-12. The program includes field experiences beginning in the very first education class and continues throughout their coursework. Candidates complete intensive coursework in content areas of endorsement. They conclude the degree program by perfecting their practice in a full semester of student teaching.
Areas of endorsement are:
Single Subject (minimum of 45 credits): Art, Biology, Business Education, Chemistry, Communication & Rhetorical studies, English, Family & Consumer Sciences, Geology, Health Education, Math, Physical Education, or Theatre
Primary Endorsement / Secondary endorsement (minimum of 30/20 credits in two areas): Biology, Business Education, Chemistry, Communication & Rhetorical studies, Economics, English, English as a Second Language (ESL), French, Geology, German, Health Education, History, Mass Communication, Math, Physical Education, Physics, Political Science, Social Studies*, Spanish, or Theatre *Social Studies primary endorsement requires a secondary endorsement in either political science, economics, or history
Specific coursework listings can be found in the Undergraduate Catalog. This program is offered in Pocatello, Idaho Falls, and Twin Falls, however, some travel may be required to Pocatello to complete coursework in the various endorsement areas.
