Praxis I Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I take the three Praxis I exams?

Pocatello: ISU Counseling and Testing Center, Gravely Hall, Building 15, room 351 – third floor. The tests given here are computer-based only. There are only 4 stations so sign up early.

Twin Falls: College of Southern Idaho, Gerald R. Meyerhoeffer Building, 2nd floor. The tests given here are paper-based only and are offered at limited times.

How often is the Praxis I offered at the Testing Center?

Pocatello: Daily: Monday – Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. based on availability. The schedule for summer hours may vary slightly. You can only take the test once per calendar month and no more than 6 times within a 12 month period.

Twin Falls: Only a few times per year. www.ets.org. Twin Falls DOES NOT OFFER TESTING IN JULY.

How do I sign-up to take the exam and find more information?

Pocatello: Call the Educational Testing Service (ETS) toll free line at 1-800-853-6773. When registering you must pay for your test(s) with a credit card. If you encounter any problems when registering, contact the ISU Counseling and Testing Center at 282-2130.

Twin Falls: Register by phone 866-387-8602 or on-line at the www.ets.org website. You will need to sign up for an account. After you complete the account registration you can access the test selection. Choose the Praxis 1 PPST Mathematics, Reading, and/or Writing. Twin Testing Center -208-732-6532 Note: Twin Falls DOES NOT OFFER TESTING IN JULY.

How much does it cost to take the Praxis I?

Pocatello: Option A: Take one section at a time. Two hours allowed per section. $160.00. $80.00 to retake a section. $120 to retake two sections.

Option B: Take all sections at once. 4 ½ hours allowed. $130.00. $80.00 to retake a section. $120 to retake two sections.

Twin Falls: $40 per section.

What if I can’t afford the cost of the exam?

If you have a demonstrated financial need, you can apply for a fee waiver. Contact Educational Testing Service for more information at 866-387-8602 or http://www.ets.org.

If I have a documented disability, or if English is not my primary language, may I receive accommodations for taking the Praxis I?

Yes. Again, contact ETS directly.

How long will it take for me to receive my official scores?

Pocatello -You will receive your unofficial reading and math scores immediately. For all others, the official scores will come in the mail within 3-4 weeks. For faster results contact ETS directly and your scores can be provided for $30.

What are the minimum scores I must receive in order to pass?

Math 169 Reading 172 Writing 174

Can I petition for an exception if I do not meet the minimum scores?

If it is the first time you have taken the Praxis I and you do not meet the minimum requirement, you must retake whatever section(s) you did not pass. If you do not pass after the second time, schedule an appointment with an advisor in the Student Advising Center to discuss your options.

Can I study for the Praxis I?

Yes this is strongly encouraged. You can purchase a study guide at the ISU Bookstore, Barnes & Noble, or online through ETS or www. amazon.com. General information and study tips can be found on the ETS website. The College of Education Student Advising Center and the ISU Center for Teaching and Learning can also help with the writing portion.
