Our Committee Web Resources Shared with the University via the President's Staff Meeting
      The diversity resources on our Committee Web site were presented at the President's Staff Meeting on Feb. 10 by Committee Chair Dr. Cynthia Pemberton, ISU Affirmative Action Director Buddy Frazier, and graduate assistant Xuejun Shen. The presentation especially focused on the resources created by our Committee in an effort to recruit diverse faculty, including the recruiting protocol, the recommended media advertising sources, and the targeted schools to send direct advertising mails. All the university officials present were encouraged to share the resources with their colleagues and take full advantage of the resources in diversifying faculty. The President was appreciative of the efforts of our Committee and College of Education (COE) to advocate and promote diversity.
ICEE Conference Diversity Strand & EDLP 800 Multilingual Signage Project
      Our Committee's proposal to include a diversity strand in the Intermountain Center for Educational Effectiveness (ICEE) Conference Oct. 2003 was well received by ICEE Director Dr. Gene Davis. The related programs will be planned soon....EDLP 800 students have been assigned to investigate the possibility of posting multilingual signage throughout
the COE. The course of Doctoral Seminar is co-taught by Dr. Cynthia Pemberton and Dr. Jane Strickland.
ISU Hosts Students from Georgia Feb. 11-15
     
Twenty students from Savannah State University (SSU), Savannah, Ga., were visiting ISU Feb. 11-15 as part of a cultural exchange program called Diversity Educational Experience Program (D.E.E.P.). Last fall, 20 ISU students visited SSU, a small predominantly African American school. The ISU D.E.E.P. program has been coordinated through Jim Fullerton in the Student Affairs office in conjunction with Mecham and Dr. Deb Hedeen of the COE.
ISUPW Salary Equity Presentation Feb. 13
      As a follow-up to the agenda on ISU Professional Women's Association's (ISUPW) luncheon with the President last Dec., a salary equity presentation with ISU Human Resources Director David Miller was held on Feb. 13 in the PSUB. The presented information will be discussed on ISUPW's next meeting Apr. 8.
Multicultural Visit Feb. 14-15
      ISU hosted a multicultural U.N.I.T.E (Unifying and Navigating Individuals Through Education) educational conference Feb. 14-15 in the PSUB to stress the importance of higher education to students of color. Some 250 students from throughout the west attended the event. Sponsored by the ISU Office of Enrollment Planning and Academic Services, the conference included workshops by ISU enrollment planning and student affairs staff, national speakers, and a multicultural dance/step show. Over the next few months, ISU enrollment planning will be inviting groups of high school minority students to visit ISU. 
Church Symposium Feb. 19-21
      Scholars and diplomats from around the world will attend the 32nd annual Frank Church Symposium on the theme, "Human Rights versus National Interest" Feb. 19-21, Wed.-Fri., at the PSUB. This symposium is sponsored by the ISU International Affairs Council (IAC). Among the speakers will be the United Nations Ambassador David Scheffer to give the keynote speech "The United States and the Future of International Law"; Xiomara Castro, a Salvadoran-American directing Global Exchange’s California Human Rights Program and many more excellent delegates. Latino Lunches with the Deans Feb. Mar. Apr.
  
   All ISU Latino students are invited to the free lunches sponsored by ISU college deans and members of the Hispanic Task Force. College of Arts and Sciences will host the luncheon on Feb. 26, College of Health Professions on Mar. 12, and College of Business on Apr. 2. The monthly event was initiated to let Latino students better know university faculty, programs and facilities. The COE was the first college to host the event in Jan.  Women's Meditation Group Feb. 27-Apr.10
      
A meditation group for women interested in developing a meditation practice will be conducted: Thur., 4:00 - 5:00 PM, Counseling and Testing Services, Graveley Hall, Top Floor, Feb. 27 - Apr. 10. Meditation involves the cultivation of concentration, calm and insight, which help us learn how to cope effectively with stress. This group is open to ISU students, staff, and faculty and is free of charge. The group will be facilitated by Louise Peters, Psy. D. and Tracy Lara, M.A.

TRIO Day 2003 Feb. 21
      ISU will celebrate TRIO Day 2003 on Feb. 21, Fri. An Open House will be held in ISU TRIO Office in Room 312, Museum Building, 9-11:30 am and 2-4pm, between which a luncheon will be offered at 12pm in the PSUB Ballroom. TRIO Achievers will be honored during the event. On Feb. 27, a TRIO financial aid workshop will be held in the ISU TRIO office to assist TRIO students to get more aware of financial aid resources and to complete documents necessary for financial aid application.
Annual C.W. HOG Ski-A-Thon Feb. 22
       ISU C.W. HOG program is holding its 15th Annual Ski-A-Thon Feb. 22 at the Pebble Creek Ski Area, and local skiers can pick up their pledge forms now. The Ski-A-Thon is a fundraiser that enables C.W. HOG to purchase adaptive equipment and keep skiing costs affordable for participants with disabilities. Desert Night (Asian & Middle Eastern) March 8
      The Asian Student Association presents Desert Night on Mar. 8 Sat. in the PSUB Ballroom. Desert Night is Asian Night with a Middle Eastern twist. There will be traditional food from Asian and Middle Eastern countries. A huge variety of music, dancing, languages, smiles, and laughs.

Visiting Author Gayle Ross to Perform Mar. 10-12
       The Visiting Author Conference this year will take place on Mar. 10, 11, and 12. The guest author is renowned Cherokee storyteller Gayle Ross, who is a direct descendent of Principal Chief John Ross. She will be telling traditional stories that were taught to her by her grandmother. Ms. Ross has appeared on national television and has performed at the White House. She promises to be a wonderful presenter for us this year. The Public Performance will be on Monday evening, March 10, at the COE auditorium. A book signing will be held from 6:20 until 7:00 pm when her performance begins. There will also be an after school performance at the Marshall Public Library at 4:00 pm on Tues., March
