Overview of 2011-2012 TIA Events
Focus Group
January 20, 2012 - Idaho State University, Meridian Center, Meridian, ID
Region III
Save the Date
The purpose of this meeting was to identify the "next steps" in the Idaho TIA process for Region III. This work was based on an evaluation of existing TIA documents and the process that was undertaken during the inaugural project in Region III in 2010-2011. The guidance provided by this Focus Group was pivotal in planning both the 2012 Facilitator Training and the 2012 Working Conference. Emphasis was placed on the implementation of the Common Core State Standards and assessment of these standards.

The purpose of this meeting was to identify the "next steps" in the Idaho TIA process for Regions IV, V and VI. This work was based on an evaluation of existing TIA documents and the process that has been undertaken over the last five years in Regions IV, V, and VI. The guidance provided by this Focus Group was pivotal in planning both the 2012 Facilitator Training and the 2012 Working Conference. Emphasis was placed on the implementation of the Common Core State Standards and assessment of these standards.
Facilitator Training
April 11 - 12, 2012 - University of Idaho, Student Union, Moscow, ID
Regions I & II
This two-day training focused on the identification and development of educators, from each participating school district in Regions I and II, to serve as Idaho TIA coordinators/facilitators. A minimum of two trained facilitators per building was recommended; however, school districts could elect to have as many as two per content area and/or grade level. The result of this training is a cadre of facilitators that can lead the development and implementation of Idaho TIA and the CCSS in their schools/districts. These facilitators may also serve as team leaders for the summer Working Conference.

In addition to new Idaho TIA facilitator training, this event also served as a working forum for Idaho TIA leaders from the Focus Group (held January 20, 2012 in Meridian) to continue their work in preparation for the summer Working Conference.
Facilitator Training
April 25 - 26, 2012 - Idaho State University, Pond Student Union, Pocatello, ID
Regions IV, V & VI
[NOTE: A feature of the 2012 Facilitator Training was differentiated program delivery.]
Advanced training took place for facilitators with previous Idaho TIA experience. Experienced facilitators worked separately and received readiness professional development training for the summer Working Conference, as well as continued the process of unpacking the Common Core State Standards.
New facilitators received the traditional orientation to the Idaho TIA process. Educators from each participating school district were identified to serve as Idaho TIA coordinators/facilitators. A minimum of two trained facilitators per building was recommended; however, school districts could elect to have as many as two per content area and/or grade level. The result of this training is a cadre of trained facilitators that can lead the development and implementation of Idaho TIA and the CCSS in their school/district, and potentially serve as team leaders for the summer Working Conference each year.
In addition to new TIA facilitator training, this event also served as a working forum for TIA leaders from the Focus Group (held January 26, 2012 in Pocatello) to continue their work in preparation for the summer Working Conference.
Collaboration Workshop
April 27, 2012 - Idaho State University, Pond Student Union, Pocatello, ID
Regions IV, V & VI
This event is a recently designed feature of the Idaho TIA professional development training plan. The aim of the workshop was to develop collaborative partnerships with key educational leaders. These key partners in the Idaho TIA process include, but are not limited to: The Idaho State Board of Education, Idaho State Department of Education, Mathematical Thinking for Instruction, Idaho Reading Initiative, GEAR Up Idaho, Idaho Building Capacity Project, Idaho Digital Learning Academy, statewide professional associations, faculty from Colleges of Education in Idaho (Idaho State University, Boise State University, University of Idaho, North Idaho College, and Lewis and Clark State College), Idaho State legislators, and representatives from business and industry, as well as teachers and administrators. Collaborators worked to strengthen the vision, content and delivery of the project.
Working Conference
June 4 - 8, 2012 - Idaho State University, Pond Student Union, Pocatello, ID
Regions IV, V & VI
Save the Date
This five-day Working Conference was designed to be hands-on and integrative. The process of creating aligned grade-level (PK-12) and content area documents, which can be used by all teachers from each participating district, was continued. [NOTE: The Idaho TIA project has a strategic plan to complete the alignment of content documents from preschool through college, P-16.] These TIA documents are the culmination of the alignment process: standards, task analysis, instruction (including sheltered instruction objectives and strategies), vocabulary, curriculum resources, and assessment. Alignment is considered both horizontally (across a grade level) and vertically (between grade levels). To support the work of the conference, teachers are organized into content area/grade level teams.
