October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
People from all economic and cultural backgrounds can be subjected to domestic violence. Study indicated that women are more likely than men to experience intimate partner violence. Nearly one in three women experience at least one physical assault by a partner during adulthood while children are often the direct or indirect victims of domestic violence. Just witnessing violence has devastating, long-term effect on children. If children have been exposed to domestic violence, it increases the chances that they will take on the role of either a “batter” or a “victim” in their adult relationships. Click here for more information on risk factors for domestic violence.
To educate and improve response to domestic violence, the month of October is designated as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Project Hope, a program of the Anderson Gender Resource Center, encourages members of ISU community who have been affected by domestic violence and who like assistance to call Project Hope at 282-HOPE (4673). Pocatello community members can contact Family Services Alliance at 251-HELP (4357). For more information about the services, contact Kim Talbot at 282-4673.

Save Lids to Save Lives
Anderson Gender Resource Center is raising funds for breast cancer research by collecting pink Yoplait yogurt lids. This event is in conjunction with Yoplait's Save Lids to Save Lives Breast Cancer Program. Yoplait will donate 10 cents for each lid redeemed, up to $1.5 million, to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Additionally, Yoplait guarantees a minimum donation of $500,000. Clean pink lids can be dropped off at two locations: the Yoplait collection box under the clock wall near the Chartwells check-out counters in the PSUB, and at Room 114 Graveley Hall, Anderson Center. The lids will be sent to Yoplait on December 20, 2005. All pink lids need to be cleaned before being dropped off at both locations.

She will discuss risk factors, symptoms, and the medical nutrition therapy for the treatment and prevention of these diseases. She will also discuss specific nutrients and chemicals in foods that are health promoting.

Breaking the Silence: Children's Stories
Many domestic violence batterers are successfully using custody and visitation litigation to abuse their families. Do you find it hard to believe? Tune in to PBS on Thursday October 20, 2005 at 10:00 pm Eastern Time for Breaking the Silence: Children's Stories. This is a powerful PBS documentary that records the impact of domestic violence on children and the recurring failings of family courts across the country to protect them from the abusers.
