ISU Library Latino Display
There is a display of Latino literature and cultural artifacts on the main
and second floors of ISU Library till the end of November. Many of the items
are from our member Dr. Angela Luckey's personal
collection.
ISU Students Going to Savannah State U.
There will be a student leadership exchange between ISU and Savannah State University a historical black institution
located on the eastern shoreline of Georgia this school year 2002-03. The
activity will provide an opportunity for 15 student leaders from both
campuses to visit the other for 3 days. Visiting students will meet with
campus student leaders in similar positions, attend classes and relevant
student organizations' events, and have an opportunity to experience a
climatically and culturally different region. ISU anticipates sending students
to Savannah some time this November.
If
any ISU student is interested in participating in this exchange, please

Teaching
Tolerance Web Site Review --Tolerance.Org
Tolerance.org serves as a clearinghouse of information about anti-bias
programs and activities being implemented in schools across the country. It supports
the efforts of K-12 teachers and other educators to promote respect for
differences and appreciation of diversity. The site is in three main
sections:
"Tolerance Watch"--to report tolerance and anti bias education
news and track hate
groups, web sites and music. There you can find database of daily
lesson plans teaching tolerance, selection of
professional development opportunities for educators on multi-cultural,
equity and tolerance themes and more...
"Do Something"--to tell ways to fight hate, tools for tolerance,
and the activities on those themes. "Respond to hate at
school" is especially for school teachers, administrators and
counselors. "Mix it
up at lunch" is a new network challenging social boundaries in
schools and communities. In "Find a human
rights group," you can find ISU student organizations.
"Dig Deeper"--to test hidden biases,
deconstruct biased language, and explore the subtle lessons lie just beneath
the surface. Culturally
insensitive Halloween masks are under examination right now.
