Dr. Sara Helfrich Ph.D
Assistant Professor Literacy Education
Sara Helfrich is an Assistant Professor of Literacy Education at Idaho State University. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in Reading Education in 2007. Dr. Helfrich teaches classes in developmental literacy, language arts, and literacy assessment.
Some of Dr. Helfrich’s recent work includes having served on the Reading First in Pennsylvania Evaluation Team through the University of Pittsburgh; teaching and supervision of student teachers through the University of Colorado at Denver’s Initial Professional Teacher Education (IPTE) Program; and serving as an initial reviewer for the International Reading Association’s Teacher Education Task Force. Prior to pursuing her interest in reading education, Dr. Helfrich was a Special Education teacher, serving in the greater-Boston area.
Dr. Helfrich’s research interests lie in the areas of literacy education, teacher preparation, working with struggling readers and/or students with Special Needs, and reading development in diverse cultures.
