Dr. Lloyd Peterson, Ph.D. - Associate Professor
Dr. Lloyd Peterson received his doctorate of Special Education and Educational Leadership in 1999 from Utah State University. His major focus of study is of behavioral science and its relationship to formal education. His research has focused on school wide positive behavior change and generalization of learned skills. Among many varied career experiences, Dr. Peterson has been an accountant/systems analyst for major oil companies, a school principal, and has an extensive background working as a teacher/counselor of children with emotional behavioral disorders and adults and children with severe mental retardation. Currently Dr. Peterson is the Chair of the Department of Educational Learning and Development at Idaho State University. The department consists of the programs of: Literacy, School Psychology, and Special Education.
Dr. Peterson believes that rather than focusing on suppressing inappropriate student behaviors, the focus of education should be on building appropriate behaviors (TEACHING). He believes education is a business, and the product that education produces is the future of our society.
