Admission to the Teacher Education Programs
Academic advising for the undergraduate program is coordinated through the College of Education Student Advising Center.
Application Procedure
Teacher Education Program Applications are processed three times per year:
• October 1
• March 1
• June 1
(1) Applications must be complete and all requirements must be
satisfied at the time the application is submitted.
(2) Late applications may be held until the next processing period.
(3) Students must be accepted into the Teacher Education Program
in order to be eligible to enroll in 300 or 400 level core
education classes.
Teacher Education Program Admission Standards
| 1. | Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.75 or higher. |
| 2. | Completion of prerequisite courses: • EDUC 201 (Development & Individual Differences - 3 credits). Grade of "C" or higher. • EDUC215 (Preparing to Teach with Technology- 3 credits) or College approved equivalent. Grade of "C" or higher. |
| 3. | Prerequisite courses in progress or completed with a "B" or higher in two of the three courses with no grade lower than "C". • ENGL 101 (English Composition) • COMM 101 (Principles of Speech) • MATH: *Math 157 is required for Elementary and Early Childhood Education Optional Math courses: 123, 127, 130, 157, 160, 170, or 253: MATH 123 Mathematics in Modern Society – 3 credits MATH 127 The Language of Mathematics – 3 credits MATH 130 Finite Mathematics – 3 credits MATH 157 Structure of Arithmetic for Elementary School Teachers – 3 credits MATH 160 Brief Calculus – 4 credits MATH 170 Calculus I – 4 credits MATH 253 Introduction to Statistics -- 3 credits |
| 4. | Submission of EDUC 201 professional portfolio entries. |
| 5. | Letter of recommendation from EDUC 201 instructor. |
| 6. | Letter of recommendation from EDUC 201 Field Experience Cooperating Teacher. |
| 7. | Submission of signed form indicating awareness of Idaho teacher certification requirements |
| 8. | Presentation of satisfactory scores on the Pre-professional Skills Test (PPST). Minimum scores are: R=172 (319), W=174 (320), M=169 (314). |
| 9. | Successful completion of the Teacher Education Program Admission interview. |
