This section provides three opportunities to practice the analyze phase of the ADDIE model. Each problem becomes increasingly more complex. Click on a PROBLEM button to proceed.

Problem #1

The principal of an elementary school asks you to create a dynamic PowerPoint presentation that will help the teachers understand how to use the schools digital camera. The camera is a very simple design but the teachers seem to have difficulty getting the pictures off the camera and on to a computer.

School has just ended for the summer and the principal wants to include the presentation as part of her back-to-school meetings held the week before school starts.

The goal of this software presentation is to provide each teacher with a tool to learn the following skills:

Checkout the camera from the media center
    Setup the camera
    Check batteries
    Check available space
    Select a resolution
    Take a picture
Upload the captured pictures to a PC
Print a proof sheet
Select a picture and print
Erase the pictures off of the camera
Check the camera in with the media center

Of the 20 teachers in the building, five are very technologically literate and have their own cameras. Ten teachers have limited computer technology experience that includes word-processing and data entry in the school's integrated record keeping program. Five teachers have no computer experience and are very resistant to learning new technology skills.

Problem #2

The superintendent of a small rural school contacts after the Christmas holidays and wants you to help develop a computer based orientation program for new bus drivers. The program will reside on a new computer to be purchased specifically for this purpose. The content of the program is to deal with just the safety issues involving the operation of a small 30 passenger school bus. Before the drivers will be allowed to drive, they will have to complete this safety orientation program and successfully pass a written examination as well successful completion of other state requirements. The director of the bus garage wants the program to simulate safety violations and require the new driver to identify the violation and provide the safe approach to correcting the problem.

Bus driver requirements for this district require that applicants have a safe driving history and a high-school diploma. It is anticipated that the computer literacy of this population will be limited but teachable.

New bus driver applications are due mid summer.

Problem #3

At the town's 4th of July parade, you end up visiting with the president of the local Chamber of Commerce. He asks for your input on a project for the town's centennial celebration next summer. His conception of the project involves providing a documentary of the town's 100-year history out to all the residents. An article appeared in USA Today that reported that 87% of households in the U.S. have VCRs and 72% have working computers. Of the 72% computer owners, two-thirds have Internet connections.

The local car dealership has offered to donate a car for the celebration and the president wants to have a centennial trivia contest to give the car away. He is hoping that the residents can use the information from the project to prepare for the contest.
